School authorities yet to overcome the impact of the shocking incident suddenly losing a talented student

Though nearly a week has passed since Sarala Sarkar, a class VIII standard student of Bhebarghat ME School here met an unnatural death at her shelter home ‘Kasturi Sishu Griha’, the students and teachers community of the school yet to overcome the impact of the shock. When this correspondent on Thursday visited the school and met its head mistress , a couple of teachers and students, it clearly appeared that they all couldn’t believe the incident and they are still in deep grief. ‘ We couldn’t believe the incident and we are still in a shock. The girl who had left us happily and showing bye bye killed herself few minutes later.’ said Kanchan Saikia, the head mistress ( i/c) of the school. The school head said that Sarala was taken by one of the staff of the Sishu Griha few minutes before the end of the class hours following our communication with the Sishu Griha Superintendent that she was engaged in a tussle with a couple of her classmates of the opposite gender. ‘ Informing the guardians regarding such nature of visible pull – push activities particularly among senior students is a common phenomenon in schools as because, at present conventional punishment is totally ban. We don’t want to take any risk of possible injuries to any of the student . Moreover the exam was nearer and there was always special attention to students like Sarala.’, headmistress Saikia added. Saikia also clarified that they didn’t ask the Sishu Griha authority to take her from the school and it was only the Superintendent of the institution who had insisted to keep her aside from the ongoing class so that she can be escorted back to her Griha without delay. Headmistress Saikia considered Sarala to be a student above the average academically but a pioneer in cultural and community activities. She recalled how Sarala enthralled the students and teachers of the school through her modern dance performance in most of the school functions and also led the assembly prayer on a regular basis. Saikia stated that Sarala was loved by all the teachers and staff of the school. However she was more attached to teachers namely Priya Nath and Pranati Baruah. All the students, teaching and non teaching staff of the school with a heavy heart condoled the untimely and unnatural death of this talented student. It may be mentioned here that on last Saturday, November 22 , the orphan girl an inmate of the said Sishu Griha situated here at Bamunpara reportedly died due to hanging inside the lavatory of the institution. She was taken to a private hospital where she was reportedly declared died. Meanwhile police is investigating the incident while DC, Darrang has also ordered a magisterial probe. Sarala along with her two siblings were admitted to the Child Care Institute ( CCI) in the year 2022 after they lost their parents.
