A shooting incident occurred near the Farragut West Metro station, just blocks from the White House, in Washington, D.C. Two National Guard members from West Virginia were critically wounded in what officials described as a “targeted” ambush. The soldiers were reportedly on high-visibility patrol when a lone gunman, identified by law enforcement sources as an Afghan national, approached and opened fire with a handgun.
Other Guard members and law enforcement quickly responded, subduing the suspect, who was also shot and taken into custody. Both injured soldiers were hospitalized in critical condition. Authorities, including the FBI, are investigating the attack, with President Donald Trump labeling it an “act of terror.” The White House and nearby federal buildings were briefly placed under lockdown following the incident.
